Frequently Asked Questions
Reading time is estimated at 200 words per minute, which is the average adult silent reading speed. The displayed time is rounded to the nearest practical unit (seconds, minutes, or hours).
Speaking time is estimated at 150 words per minute, the average for a comfortable presentation pace. This is useful for estimating speech or podcast length.
Sentences are counted by splitting the text on sentence-ending punctuation (., !, ?). This is a heuristic and may not be perfectly accurate for texts that use punctuation in unusual ways.
Words are counted by splitting on whitespace and filtering out empty strings. Any sequence of non-whitespace characters is treated as a word, including numbers and hyphenated words.
